WEST COBB SHUTTERBUGS PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB

The Shutterbugs were formed about 2001 by a group of photographers which included, among others, Jesse Hayley, Ken Reeves and Peter Sadler. Initially sponsored by Marietta Parks and Recreation, the club has always met at the West Cobb Senior Center and was formed as an offshoot of the photography club which meets at the Windy Hill Road Senior Center. Jesse Hayley served as the first president of the Shutterbugs. Currently, the Shutterbugs have approximately 40 members, including photographers with a range of experience from those with many years of experience all the way to those who are just beginning and everywhere in between.

The Shutterbugs are just one of the many clubs and services offered through the Cobb County Senior Services (for those who are 55 years old or older). We meet at the West Cobb facility at 4915 Dallas Highway, Powder Springs 30127. The facilities are top notch and the staff is friendly and helpful! The club currently offers classes for beginning photographers. From time to time, workshops on specific areas of photography have been held which are more geared toward photographers with more experience. Some areas covered in the past are Depth of Field, HDR, Histograms, Color, digital cameras, digital sensors, digital post-processing, etc.

Field trips to local spots of interest and to places outside the local area are offered for those who want to participate.

Programs include speakers from the club and from outside the club. They may present a subject that represents a learning experience in some area of photography, such as how to set up studio lights or the speaker may show work they’ve done, such as photographs from their trips to places such as Canada, China, a National Park, etc.

Club competitions offer another chance to learn from each other and from the critique given by the judge. Typically, judges are chosen from photographers from the Atlanta area who have many years of experience.
